Our portfolio consists of part-time (electronic-shift-on-the-fly & manual-shift-on-the-fly), all-wheel-drive (open differential) and BorgWarner - pioneered active technology (Torque-on-Demand). The Atlas 4, four speed transfer case includes all of the ruggedness and durability of the Atlas 2 only with the potential for even lower gearing. Instead of the typical high range and ultra low range gears, you now have the option of using one of two mild low range gears instead. Then, if neither of them are low enough, engage them both for an ultra ultra low gear.
With the new Atlas 4 you get two choices for the standard low range, 2.0:1 or 3.81:1. Access to either these is the same as with a regular Atlas 2, just drop it in low and go. However, now there is a third shifter. With the addition of the 2.72:1 planetary gear set a whole new world of creepy crawling opens up for you. If you are in low range and engage the planetary your low range jumps from either the 2.0 or 3.8 down to 5.44 or 10.34:1. The planetary gear can also be used while the Atlas is in High range as well.
